I saw you walking my way down a back alley Like a predator stalks his prey. Your eyes were tractor beams, they pulled me right in And I couldn't walk away. So we dipped to a bar, had a couple of shots, It was tequila and it was chilled. I walked on back home like a dog with a bone, And we had ourselves a thrill. All work and no play is no good at all All work and no play is no good at all No good at all My mind is playing tricks and I feel like I'm tripping When I wake up next to you. We hang around in bed 'til I straighten my head, Then we cook some breakfast for two. We walk into the day, find some water to play; You catch fish & I sing you songs. The time moves by slow, I love the summer you know, It gets hot and it last so long. All work and no play is no good at all All work and no play is no good at all

You can climb to the top of a mountain, Back down and around it, Then you climb back up again. You can push your nose to a millstone, Grind out your future, Wear down your bones. But on the way up, if you see me there With a twenty in my pocket and a slackjaw stare, Leave me be, oh Lord, leave me be. I made my mind up a long time ago I'm happy here so long's you don't tread on me. Don't tread on me. If my time's worth something to you, Give me something to do, Give me something to prove. 'Cause I've been down, but I'll be back up And I don't give a fuck About expensive stuff. But on the way up, if you see me there With a twenty in my pocket and a slackjaw stare, Leave me be, oh Lord, leave me be. I made my mind up a long time ago I'm happy here so long's you don't tread on me. Don't tread on me. Oh, don't you do it to me I've been working all day and night, I've got a carton of smokes if you've got a light. When we're finished we can blow this town, I'll even let you drive if you're down, But don't tread on me. Don't tread on me (I've been working on my mind for so long) Don't tread on me (I've been working off my time for so long) Don't tread on me (I've been working on my mind for so long) Don't tread on me (I've been working off my time for so long)

A part of my heart still beats in the hills of Virginia, Where the sunlight drips through the clouds like a cool fall rain. And I guess it's been awhile since I've been to the place of my birth; Nothing much has changed, I'm just bigger in a smaller world. It's the passing of time, It's a state of mind, And it's high time that I took a long look around. It's fall in Colorado and the days are getting shorter and shorter. Shadows from the aspens are growing longer on the path in front of me. A feeling of excitement as the snow starts to fall from the sky; My skis come out of storage, facilitating my ability to fly. It's a powder day, I should be on my way, But I slept late today and I lost my spot in line. The light is gold as it falls through the trees And it shines on me. The mountains meet the sky, they rise so high, Good lord, I can't believe my eyes.

Jenny & Jude 04:10
Jenny & Jude wear matching sweaters, They play together so well. He is tall & he plays a piano While Jenny does a show & tell. They play together, they laugh together, They walk together outside. Like carrots & peas, like peaches & cream, They go, forever, side by side. Come on Jenny don't you break his heart Come on Jenny don't you break his heart Jenny & Jude, on a sunny morning, They're walking hand in hand. He speaks softly, says he loves her, But Jenny's in La-La-Land. She loves him too, but she plays it cool, She won't be a fool in love. Jenny thinks her heart can't be taken, But she'll fall right in with the slightest shove. Come on Jenny don't you break his heart Come on Jenny don't you break his heart apart Yeah Jenny don't you break his heart apart Yeah Jenny don't you break his heart Now Jude is gone, it's many years later, Jenny's long moved on. She still thinks about his sweet loving When the next man comes along. These memories, you know they ain't too clean, But they always seem too cute. In the end, they were kids And their love hit the skids. And Jenny's gonna miss her sweet, sweet Jude. Come on Jenny don't you break his heart Come on Jenny don't you break his heart apart Yeah Jenny don't you break his heart apart Yeah Jenny don't you break his heart

Whiskey Moon 03:41
Barkeep, pass the bottle, I need liquor for my wounds. There's bluegrass on the radio, An old, familiar tune. My chariot's come calling, But I won't leave so soon, Cause I've got one wish to make On the old whiskey moon. For some place that we can find some peace of mind, Some place that we can leave our trouble behind. Whiskey moon won't you bend down low; Hear my only plea. Guide your face to the light And shine down on me; Cause the day has worn me weary, But at last I am free To follow that old whiskey moon Into eternity. For some place that we can find some peace of mind, Some place that we can leave our trouble behind. My time here is setting, Lord, And to the West, I go. The roads, they always change, And my course, I do not know. But the sun will meet me there, yes Lord, And with the sun I'll grow Taller than the whiskey moon That shines down below. Taller than the whiskey moon That shines on down, oh, You know, he's shining on me.

Hardtack 04:06
Joseph and Thomas were a couple of country boys. In the Piedmont of south Virginia, Henry County was their home. Their Daddy was a lawyer & their Ma, a lady fine, But those brothers were the type to favor whiskey over wine. Down South in Carolina, some battle lines were drawn. Joseph kissed his young wife, Ruthie, and he rode off to take up arms. Stopped at his folks plantation, picked up his brother Tom, They headed off to war with a mess kit full of biscuits made by Mom. They watched helpless as their brothers fell beside. They found love in the arms of women not their wives, But the hardtack kept them alive. The hardtack kept them alive. For the 10th Virginia Calvary, Joseph fought, and he fought well. They won a couple battles, sent some Yankee souls to hell. But the North kept pushing South, and supply lines got cut off. They took orders to retreat and flank the Union soldiers' block. They got caught a couple miles into their ride. Marched off to Point Lookout Maryland to die, But the hardtack kept them alive. The hardtack kept them alive. The prison camp was awful, a dehumanizing hell: The boys were kept in pens like swine, captors pissed into the wells. War was finished by the spring; the brothers held there until June, Given hardtack for the road. They knew they'd see their families soon. That worm-ridden bread, they did refuse to eat; They walked out and threw it at the soldiers' feet. They returned home in defeat. Oh, and they were singing: Glory, hallelujah, my eyes have seen the Lord, And he's ascending back to Heaven, carrying a broken sword. Singing, Glory, hallelujah, my eyes have seen the Lord, And he's ascending back to Heaven, carrying a broken sword. Singing, Glory, hallelujah, my eyes have seen the Lord, And he's ascending back to Heaven, carrying a broken sword. Singing, Glory, hallelujah, my eyes have seen the Lord, And I'm going back to south Virginia to tell my children, "Don't you ever go to war!"

Corvette 04:28
Dina grew up in a factory town, But the profits dried up, and the company pulled out. She walked outta school at the age of fifteen; Never looked back, can't admit the defeat. Dina met Bobby at the Sumter County Fair; He was twelve years older and he drove a Corvette. Though her Daddy didn't like it, she ran off and got hitched; By the time she was twenty, she'd had three kids. The Corvette was a dream painted in red. But a dream will turn to nightmares instead. Dina loved the Corvette. Dina and Bobby weren't the fortunate kind, But they had a double wide at the Carolina Pines. Bobby was a trucker 'til he got a DUI; The family went on welfare, the 'Vette went up on blocks. Times had gotten desperate; the family's breaking bad With Bobby slinging crystal and Dina on her back. With some money rolling in, they could try to patch the cracks; Bobby got a set of wheels and painted the 'Vette black. The Corvette couldn't keep those children fed, But it eased a mighty hunger in her head. Dina loved the Corvette. Loved the Corvette. Bobby'd gotten violent; he was beating on the kids. Dina found out, and she kinda lost her shit: Started sneaking 'round behind his back, making shady plans, Saved up a little money, bought herself a minivan. One night Bobby came home wasted, Dina saw her chance: She whacked him on the head with an iron frying pan, Dragged his body to the 'Vette, took off both the plates, Strapped him in the driver's seat and pushed the 'Vette into a lake. The Corvette was Bobby's final place of rest. They all believed he'd packed up his car and left. They never found the Corvette. Never found the Corvette. They never found the Corvette. Never found the Corvette.

Fossil 04:05
When I met you I knew you, But not all that well, And I couldn't tell My wrongs from your rights. When I met you I loved you, But I didn't know myself, And you didn't know What I'd left behind. But now I know That love's not a joke And clinging to hope Leaves you blind. Now I see Our lives as a dream, And you're here with me And we're fine. We're fine. Some time too soon You'll go off and change with the moon, But I'll love you 'Til I die And with time my bones become stone.
